THE DREAM IN EXPERIENCE

DREAM IN DATA,
SLEEP IN ART

Vision

Sleep is different for everyone, but
is equally important for everyone.

Sleep is more than just relaxation – it is a central element of our physical and mental well-being. In a society that has to be available around the clock, good sleep becomes a challenge.

“The Dream in Experience” offers a space to experience sleep in a new way – beyond myth and stigma, at the intersection of science, art and technology. Our aim is to make sleep visible and tangible, to critically reflect on sleep behavior and to focus on the social significance of sleep.

About

The project “THE DREAM IN EXPERIENCE ” sees itself as an open space for sleep culture. Neurologists and sleep physicians from the Department of Neurology at the Kepler University Hospital Linz, in cooperation with designer Andreas Strauss and artist Reinhard Gupfinger as well as researchers from the Johannes Kepler University Linz, have realized an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of art, science and technology.

At the center is a specially developed capsule hotel in which visitors spend a 90-minute sleep cycle in so-called sleep capsules. Under varying external conditions, their sleep data is recorded and translated into sound and images in real time – a multi-sensory experience that encourages people to reflect on their own sleep.

The project deals with the topic of sleep justice and sees itself as an artistic-scientific contribution to the public debate on health, social participation and the influence of big data and artificial intelligence on the medicine of the future. The aim is to make sleep visible and tangible as a central and individual life factor.

Blog

Our blog sheds light on sleep in all its facets: from medical findings to social influences and personal experiences.
Behind THE DREAM IN EXPERIENCE is an interdisciplinary team of dedicated experts from various fields. We believe that the future of sleep will be shaped at the interface between medicine, art and technology - and that is exactly where we work. Together, we are working to make sleep visible, audible and socially relevant.
